SIMPLE is here!
SIMPLE (Simulated Internal Medicine Patient Learning Experience) is an Internet-based virtual patient program for use by medical students during their internal medicine clerkship. SIMPLE's 36 interactive virtual patient cases are designed to encompass the learning objectives of the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine (CDIM)-Society for General Internal Medicine Core Medicine Clerkship Curriculum Guide Version 3.0 comprehensively.
The SIMPLE program optimizes the potential uses of computer-assisted instruction. SIMPLE provides medical students access to standardized, peer-reviewed learning materials, establishing a solid foundation in internal medicine medical knowledge and professional competencies appropriate to the core clerkship level.
SIMPLE is designed to supplement traditional clerkship teaching and patient care activities. It assists clerkship directors and faculty in facilitating, documenting, and tracking a consistent education for all students regardless of training site.The Instructors' Area of the SIMPLE website will provide many additional teaching resources, including supporting materials for didactic sessions and a bank of validated final exam questions.
The success of the SIMPLE program is built on the collaborative commitments of iInTIME and the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine (CDIM).
PILOT TESTING
For institutions wishing to pilot test the SIMPLE cases, please go to www.simplecases.org/simple_access_req.htm and complete the online request form. Pilot testing is more involved than accessing and integrating the cases into a clerkship as it requires students and clerkship directors to actively participate in surveys about each case. Pilot testing also offers access beyond the cases themselves to allow for teaching faculty feedback as well. Although the SIMPLE cases will be available to any institution wishes to use the cases, pilot testing will be limited to a small number of institutitions. ACCESSING THE SIMPLE CASES
If you are interested in accessing the SIMPLE cases, please go to the SIMPLE registration page and follow the instructions for completing the online registration form. The SIMPLE cases will be available at no cost for any institution interested in integrating the cases into their clerkship from July of this year until the beginning on the next academic year in 2009.
